When you purchase a new Chevy Silverado 1500 or Chevy Trax, one of the great features available comes from HomeLink®, a leader in home automation tools and systems. What is HomeLink® when it’s in a Chevy? One feature you might recognize from cars in Raleigh and Cary is the HomeLink® garage door opener. See what else a Chevy equipped with HomeLink® can do for you with Hendrick Chevrolet Buick GMC Southpoint.
So, what is HomeLink® exactly, and what are its benefits? HomeLink® is a system integrated into your Chevy Silverado or Suburban that allows you to remotely activate smart home devices using a combination of radio frequency and wireless cloud-based transmission. For many, the HomeLink® garage door opener function is the main appeal. When you choose a Chevy with HomeLink®, you’ll enjoy benefits such as:
Ease of Use: Connecting your vehicle to your home is simply a matter of pressing a few buttons.
Compatibility: HomeLink® is compatible with just about all garage door openers and gate systems, as well as a wide range of other radio-frequency (RF) controlled devices.
Control Up to Three Devices: Tastefully integrated into your vehicle’s interior, the HomeLink® system allows you to control up to three devices.
Safety & Security: With most compatible garage door openers, the system will let you know if your garage door has been left open or closed. HomeLink® apps also allow you to have remote control over other in-home devices, such as the lights and security system, providing you with an extra level of peace of mind when you’re traveling through Chapel Hill.
Battery-Free: Since HomeLink® is powered by the electrical system in your Chevy, you’ll never have to worry about changing batteries.
How Do I Program HomeLink®?
Programming your HomeLink® garage door opener is quick and easy! Just follow these steps to connect HomeLink® to your door-opening system:
The HomeLink® unit features three buttons and is commonly located on the ceiling of the car above the center console. Press and hold down the first and third buttons until the HomeLink® light begins to flash. This usually takes about 10 seconds. Note that pressing the first and third buttons is the master reset, so you do not need to do this when subsequently adding other devices.
Release the HomeLink® buttons and grab your current garage door opener device. Make sure it has a full battery and is functioning properly.
Press and hold the HomeLink® button you wish to program while simultaneously pressing the open/close button on your garage door opener. The HomeLink® light will start flashing slowly. Do not release either button until the HomeLink® light stops flashing or flashes rapidly.
Press the HomeLink® button you’ve just programmed. If your garage door uses a fixed code to operate, pressing this button should activate your garage door. If your garage door uses a rolling code, your HomeLink® light will flash rapidly when pressed, indicating there are a few more steps to take before programming is complete.
For garage door openers with rolling codes, have a second person enter your garage and find the “Learn” or “Smart” button on the device. Press this button until your garage door opener indicates it’s ready for pairing.
Press the programmed HomeLink® button on your car for a minimum of two seconds. You may see the lights on your garage door opener flash, indicating it is connecting. You may need to press and release the HomeLink® button up to three times for the garage door to connect.
