Chevy Key Fob Programming Guide

How to Program a Chevy Key Fob

Whether you’ve just secured yourself a Chevy Silverado key fob or a Chevy Malibu key fob, the steps for Chevy key fob programming are the same across all models. Here are the steps to get started in your Cary driveway:

1. Enter your car manually using the key blade in your Chevy key fob.
2. Make sure all four doors are closed securely. Insert the key blade in the ignition but do not start the engine. 
3. Press and hold the unlock button on the driver’s side door—you must continue holding it through step five. While holding down the unlock button, use your other hand to turn the key in the ignition to the “On” position (this means the interior lights and tech will turn on, but the engine hasn’t turned over).
4. Turn the key back to the “Off” position, then turn it back to “On,” then immediately back to “Off.” This should be a quick On-Off-On-Off sequence. 
5. You can now release the unlock button on the driver’s door. 
6. Upon releasing the unlock button, the doors should lock and unlock on their own. This tells you the programming sequence has begun.
7. Press and hold the “Unlock” and “Lock” buttons on your Chevy key fob. Hold them down until you hear the doors lock and unlock again. This time, the door locks indicate successful Chevy key fob programming. 
8. To end the programming sequence, simply insert the key back into the ignition and switch it to the “On” position.

Chevy key fob programming is really that simple! We recommend testing your key fob after programming it to be sure the programming was successful. If you can’t get the key fob to work and you’ve tried several times to program it, you might have a faulty key fob or a dead key fob battery.
